Scent LeashStar Courses

Welcome to the Scentwork Course held at the Bed and Biscuit Doggy Daycare in Cambridge, where we embark on a journey of discovery, learning, and bonding with our canine companions. Our 4-week course is designed to introduce you and your dog to the exciting world of scentwork. Scent work with dogs is vital as it offers mental stimulation, physical exercise, and the opportunity for dogs to employ their incredible olfactory skills. Beyond that, it strengthens the bond between dogs and their handlers, reduces stress, and encourages problem-solving and learning. This engagement is not only fun but also a practical tool for addressing behavior issues and preparing dogs for important roles like search and rescue or detection work, making it a truly valuable and enriching activity for both dogs and their owners.

Skyla and I thoroughly enjoyed the Introduction to Scentwork class. Tonka explained each activity beautifully catering to our individual needs, ensuring we knew exactly what to do and why. It was fun and we’re looking forward to our next series of classes. Hopefully one day we’ll compete.

Course Duration and Session Length:

  • The course runs for four weeks, providing ample time for you and your dog to build essential scentwork skills. Each session is approximately 60-75 minutes, allowing for engaging and productive learning.

Class Size:

  • To ensure personalized attention, we limit each class to a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 dogs. This way, we can tailor the course to the needs of both beginners and those with some prior experience.

Special Note on Odor:

  • Throughout the course, we’ll be working with Clove Bud Oil, the same odor used in SSANZ organized competitions, providing you and your dog with a valuable and authentic experience.

What to Bring:

  • A long lead will be necessary to assist with the exercises.
  • Plenty of treats for your dog to enjoy during training. Note that we may also use Superior Chunky treats; please let us know in advance if your dog has any sensitivities.
  • A harness is preferable for scentwork activities, providing better control and comfort for your dog.

Terms of Course Attendance

  • Your dog must be upto date with their vaccination and worming and be aged 4 months and over at the start of this course to attend. You will need to bring your vaccination book with you at the first session.
  • Only one handler to attend.
  • Punctuality is vital for the success of the lessons, the class will start on time. If you know that you will be late please text and let us know as the venue door will be locked at the start of the class for security.
  • Cancellation Policy : For booking cancelled less than 5 days prior to the start of the course or afterthe course has started, no refund will be given. If you are asked to leave the course due to any of the reasons above no refund will be given.
